Autonomous diving is defined as the capability to dive using a self-contained underwater breathing apparatus. The term helps to distinguish this activity from other forms of diving. Usually, autonomous diving is called SCUBA diving (Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus). The autonomous diver carries a diving
air compressor, which provides the greatest autonomy regarding underwater movement but also limits the time underwater. It differs from the free-diving, where the diver dives autonomously, but does not carry diving breathing equipment.
